One of my favorite events to participate in is Bout of Books, and it’s been a while. I started off 2015 with Bout of Books and so I’m going to start off 2016 with Bout of Books as well! Here’s some info about it:
The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, January 4th and runs through Sunday, January 10th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 15 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. – From the Bout of Books team
I’ll be seeing you in January for some Bout of Books fun!
Sadly, Bout of Books 14 has officially come to an end. While I’m very sad to see it go, I do have to say that I’m quite happy with my accomplishments for the week seeing as I’ve been very slumpy of late. So, here’s what I got done last week.
I met three of my four goals for the week:
- Read 3 books – I finished exactly three books and started another
- Be more active on twitter – I only made one twitter chat, but I was definitely more on twitter this week than I think I ever have been
- Complete four of the seven challenges – I participated in five challenges, though one was after the fact
- Visit two other blogs a day – while I did visit some blogs, I didn’t comment on all of them as I should have. I think next time I’ll be more specific about it.
During BoB 14 I finished these three books:
- The Countess Conspiracy (Brothers Sinister #3) by Courtney Milan
- Blood Rights (House of Comarre #1) by Kristen Painter
- Alpha (Alpha #1) by Jasinda Wilder
I also started The Raw Shark Texts by Steven Hall.
All in all, not too shabby for the week. I’m just hoping to keep the reading up and such. At least until the next Bout of Books (in JANUARY) can pump me up again, lol. In the meantime, tell me, how did your Bout of Books go?!
Until next time, Happy Reading!
Hello one and all! Bout of Books 14 is sadly winding down, but never fear, I’ve got another challenge to share!
Day 6 Challenge:
Today’s challenge is hosted by Stephanie over at Steph in Wonderland! This is the Book Road Trip Challenge! Basically we pick a road trip of places we would like to visit based on either where a book takes place or where the author lives. Without further adieu, here is my bookish road trip:
- Colorado: Start Me Up by Victoria Dahl is part of a trilogy that takes place in Colorado – it’s actually the second book, the first is lent out to my step-mom right now.
- Wyoming: Cowboy Trouble by Joanne Kennedy is another romance series that takes place in Wyoming. Yellowstone, Jackson Hole… whats not to want to see?
- Montana: Montana Sky by Nora Roberts, it’s obvious enough where it takes place and I bet you’re even starting to see the theme there…
- Illinois: Native Son by Richard Wright takes place in Chicago which is a city I desperately want to visit!
- Maine: The Stand by Stephen King, it’s pretty well know King lives in Maine which is a place I’ve never been despite living a only a few hours drive from there my whole life.
- Toronto, Ontario: Bloodletting & Miraculous Cures by Vincent Lam, Lam lives in Toronto which is a place I visited as a kid, but would love to revisit now as an adult.
So those are some of the places I would LOVE to visit! Tell me, what are your book road trip books!!
(insert Charlie Brown sounds here). Nothing to report. There’s still a few minutes left in the day which may be spent reading…. if I can deny the urge to waste time via youtube.
Hello to all! I missed yesterdays post thanks to youtube stealing all my attention (it had nothing to do with me, I swear!) but I’ll get to play catch up here. Without further adieu…
Day 4 Updates:
The day 4 challenge, which was interestingly enough the 4 seasons book covers challenge, was hosted by Kim over at KimberlyFaye Reads. Here are my books for my non-official entry!
Winter: Russian Winter by Daphne Kalotay – Winter is right in the title, so…
Spring: The Awakening by Kate Chopin – I had a really difficult time finding a spring book, so I chose this based on the fact that plants are coming back to life or ‘awakening’ in spring
Summer: Secrets to Happiness by Sarah Dunn – Please tell me what says summer more than that adorable Jack Russell in the grass, hmm?!?!?
Autumn: A Watershed Year by Susan Schoenberger – This cover just screams autumn. It’s gorgeous.
As for reading, I read the last 215 or so pages of Blood Rights by Kristin Painter (promptly followed by me purchasing the next 2 books in the series).
Day 5 Updates:
I’m not sure if I’m going to do today’s challenge because I wouldn’t really know what to pick, but I’m going to think about it and come back to that…
As for reads so far, I finished the last 110 pages of Alpha by Jasinda Wilder. I had started this before Bout of Books began and decided it needed finishing.
I also started The Raw Shark Texts by Steven Hall and read the first 40 or so pages.
Hello errbody! We are firmly entrenched within the Bout of Books 14 festivities. I’ve been making slow but steady progress with my reading, but it’s still more than I was doing a few weeks ago, so it’s a win for me! That said, let’s get to the specifics.
Day 3 Challenge:
Today’s challenge is hosted by Sarah over at Rocky Top Real Talk and is a walk down memory lane for me. I am the definition of 90’s kid, so when I saw today’s MASH challenge… let’s just say the nostalgia has been with me since. I’ll admit that I went a bit crazy with the categories, but that’s all good.
Most of the options in my categories come from books or movies though some were just random inserts, like the superpower category that came out of nowhere….
For those of you who have no desire to attempt to read my chicken scratch, here’s my future as determined by MASH:
I live in a house in Seattle with my significant other Eric Northman and our seven children (curious…). I’m a bounty hunter that gets around via horseback. My BFF is Mercy Thompson and I have a Velociraptor for a pet. My superpower would be talking to animals and if there was a zombie invasion, I’d be the third person to die.
At least the superpower would help with the pet, eh? Please let me know how your MASH turned out! I’m loving the throwback to adolescence!
I’ve been reading Blood Rights by Kristin Painter today. So far I’ve read about 110 pages, but the day is not over yet!
Day 2 of Bout of Books has almost come to an end, so it’s time to talk about all of today’s bookish stuff!
Day 2 Challenge:
Today’s challenge is a scavenger hunt hosted by Kristen over at The Book Monsters. I adore doing the scavenger hunts so let’s get to it.
A book that begins with “B” (for Bout of Books)
It’s also blue, so bonus points maybe? LOL
A book you’re planning to read/currently reading for Bout of Books
One of my current reads is:
I decided to go with a few different shades of blue for this one – all from the same shelf no less!
Books from your favorite genre!
I never would have started reading romance if I hadn’t started blogging so I picked the top shelf of my romance bookshelf (b/c yes, I organize by genre). Also… holy bowed shelf! XD
A book on your TBR shelf, or your full TBR shelves
At any given time at least half of the books I own are unread, but I can’t stand the thought of separating by read/unread so I just took a picture of a very unread portion of a shelf.
So those are my entries for the Bout of Books scavenger hunt. Please, share yours with me! I want to see all the lovely books. =]
I only got to read before going to sleep last night, AKA this morning. That said I did finish The Countess Conspiracy (FINALLY) and loved it. I don’t know the exact page count, but I’ll guesstimate 70 pages.
Let me know how you guys are doing and if you’re having a blast with Bout of Books! Until next time, Happy Reading!
Bout of Books 14 is officially underway! If you’re new to the party check out this site with all of the details. It’s a blast and the sign-ups are open until midnight Wednesday!
Day 1 Challenge:
Today’s challenge is being hosted by Leann at Between Library Shelves! The challenge is to pick 3-6 books that take place in a country other than the one you reside in! Let’s get to it!
I picked all of my books today based on them happening in different periods of history from medieval to present day (of course I stacked the books backwards for the photo though).
- Born in Ice by Nora Roberts: Modern Ireland
- The Bronze Horseman by Paullina Simons: WWII Russia
- Germinal by Emile Zola: 19th Century France
- The Book of Madness and Cures by Regina O’Melveny: Renaissance Italy
- Shadow on the Crown by Patricia Bracewell: Medieval England
Those are my books for the day 1 challenge, feel free to share yours with me!!!
Reading progress for day 1:
I started reading Blood Rights (House of Comarré, #1) by Kristin Painter, so far I’ve read 70 pages.
Not a lot of reading progress, but there’s still a little time left in the day so I might as well get to it!
Let me know how your progress is going and until next time Happy Reading!
